Maunabo, affectionately known as “La Ciudad Tranquila” (The Calm City), is a serene municipality nestled on Puerto Rico’s southeastern coast. Founded in 1799, its name is believed to originate from the Taíno word “Manatuabón,” referencing a local river.

Maunabo’s rich history is reflected in its colonial architecture and enduring traditions. The town celebrates its patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, with an annual festival on May 15. Historically, Maunabo was known for its sugar cane production, but over time, it has shifted towards other agricultural products like fruits and vegetables.

Maunabo boasts stunning natural landscapes, including:

Punta Tuna Lighthouse: Built in 1892, this historic lighthouse stands on a promontory offering panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.

Playa Larga: A secluded beach known for its golden sands and tranquil waters, ideal for relaxation and beachcombing.

Reserva Natural Humedal Punta Tuna: A protected wetland area that serves as a habitat for various bird species and offers opportunities for eco-tourism.
